Don't judge.... #8things

Attached are #8things that are positive actions, non judgemental and about grass roots change. Let's stop judging sisters and look at root causes such as the media who fuel us with a diet of so called perfection, beauty and size. Let's utilise positive media and positive role models to do and be better. #InspireASister

Happy International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day

For most many Sikhs following the message of our beautiful Guru Sahib's means International Women's Day is everyday! Nevertheless, this day is celebrated globally, especially to highlight increasing female issues such as domestic violence, rape, trafficking, the glass ceiling effect etc. So Kaurageous Leicester want to recognise the day.

What is IWD:

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

Many global corporations have also started to more actively support IWD by running their own internal events and through supporting external ones. For example, on 8 March search engine and media giant Google some years even changes its logo on its global search pages. Year on year IWD is certainly increasing in status. The United States even designates the whole month of March as 'Women's History Month'.
So make a difference, think globally and act locally !! Make everyday International Women's Day. Do your bit to ensure that the future for girls is bright, equal, safe and rewarding.

As International Women's Day falls on 8th March here are 8 amazing Sikh Bibia who have cemented the foundations of Sikhi through their unconditional love and KAURAGEOUSness! (yes a new word!). Please read more about them on http://www.kaurageous.com/literature-mainmenu-28/13-history and share with 8 people :

3 Bibi Harsharn Kaur – The True Devotee
4 Bibi Deep Kaur - The Warrior
5 Mata Gujri Ji
6 Bibi Sahib Kaur Ji
7 Bibi Rajni Ji

This International Women's Day, do 8 kind things for sisters, mothers or aunts etc and inspire 8 individuals with a Sakhi about an inspiring Bibi, past or present. Our history is full of inspiring women who have paved the way for this beautiful beautiful faith....

It was the dream of our elders…

The young generation are the future of a nation and it was the dream of “Nation Jewel”: Giani Jasbir Singh Ji (founder of Sukrit Trust) that where students should learn about Sikhi and involve within the service of their Guru’s house, they should also progress within an academic career to as high a standard as possible. Where a practising Sikh is sitting in a recognisable position within the broader society, the Sikh faith will be automatically preached to the wider population.

Through the blessings of our guru this mission: Educate Panjab Project’ has started with the aim of progressing the 1.8% Sikh minority within the rest of India through a foundation in Sikhi and a backing of academic excellence. The big problem is the poverty being faced by young Sikhs within cities and villages across Panjab and the mountain of tuition fees which is blocking their chances of receiving an adequate education. This is urging more and more young Sikhs to quit education every year and this can only ruin our chances of progressing further as a nation. Sukrit Trust has a mind blowing database of over 90,000 citizens reading Guru Granth Sahib Ji every day and is now looking to help those thousands of students who are all achieving over 70% within their examinations whilst daily reading sehaj paat. However, due to a lack of financial availability, or support from parents, students can only afford to study up until year 9 at the most.

Through this project, Guru Nanak Multiversity is offering these intelligent students that financial support (andcareer guidance, Gurmat Skills…) through scholarships with the condition of students having to achieve above 70% in all examinations. This helps student’s to be able to stretch academic careers as far as desired to reach a ‘top job’ position within India. This is where we need your help because this huge task cannot be completed successfully by one person or group but rather requires the entire Sikh nation to help their ownPunjabi nation: “Sikhs helping Sikhs”.With two hands joint clasped together, we request you that where we are paying for our everyday expenses let us try to help these children however possible so that they can reach the tip of academic excellence and we can preach our guru’s message of world unity and oneness whilst looking after our own nation. Just a donation of less than £1.00 everyday, £5-£6 a month or £60-£70 a year can pay for a student’s yearly fee.

A true foot soldier....

Via MISS REPRESENTATION...."Known as the "turbaned tornado", Singh began running marathons at the tender age of 89 as a way to cope with his grief over the death of his wife and eldest child. Since then, he's run at least eight marathons and set numerous records for his age group. Wonderfully, just last month, he participated in a mini marathon in India to raise awareness about women's rights in the wake of a fatal rape of student Jyoti Singh Pandey. 'I am pained to listen that my daughters and granddaughters and great granddaughters are no longer safe.'" - Jezebel on the 101-year-old Fauja Singh

The Strength of a Sister #InspireASister

Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur (Sister of Bhai Rajoana Jee)

Quote from Sarbjit Singh of Rajoana TV.

"Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur has also been an inspiration with a lot of resolve and strength. She has been the only link between Bhai Rajoana Jee and the rest of the world.

A message, especially for my sisters, who see the Sikh Freedom Movement as quite masculine, we see people with guns and ammunition but we forget behind these great souls are amazing, strong women who have accomplished so much! Furthermore, even recently in our very life time, some like Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur are an inspiration, showing us how strong a woman can be!

If you look at Shaheed Jaspal Singh Jee, somebody who was made Shaheed during the protests against Bhai Sahib's execution; when he was laying there on the day of his funeral, his mother and sister didn't have white chunnia on (which is what we normally do as a cultural thing as a mark of respect). Instead they had kesri on which meant we are still part of this movement.

It is really important to look at these women and especially for my sisters who can draw strength from people like Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur. She is a victim of this system. She has lost a brother, a sister and her parents were tortured, yet she still continues with complete resolve.

A big THANK YOU to Bibi Kamaldeep Kaur."
